The Square Circle Gallery at 11 Dock Square in Rockport MA is holding a reception and exhibition of new work for photographer Judy Robinson-Cox on Saturday, September 12 from 1 to 5pm.

"We are pleased to host this one-woman show by Judy Robinson-Cox," says Myra Hall, gallery manager. "She has been one of our leading artists since we began showing her work in 2008."

Judy has gained a local reputation for her photographs of tabletop tableaus that she calls "Lilliputian Landscapes". Constructed with food or common household objects, tiny plastic figures transform the scene into a miniature world with a life of its own. Cauliflower becomes a snow-covered hill, a plate of grain becomes a beach, and a butternut squash turns into a construction site. "I always create each scene entirely in front of the camera and do not use Photoshop or any other computer tool to compose the picture," says Judy.

Judy's photographs have evolved over the last ten years with a new theme or subject each year. Her first series was landscapes made entirely of fruit and vegetables populated with tiny figures. Then came sushi, Fiesta ware, flowers, technology, money, games, bubbles, ice and so on. Most recently she has photographed natural elements on a lightbox and vintage objects with miniature people.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Judy holds a BFA, cum laude from the University of Connecticut where she attended workshops with Jerry Uelsmann and Paul Caponigro. She also studied at New York University, the Philadelphia College of Art, Montserrat College of Art, and the Griffin Museum's Photography Atelier program.

She is active in various Massachusetts arts organizations including Gloucester's Rocky Neck Art Colony, and the Rockport, Newburyport and Cambridge Art Associations. The Square Circle Gallery exhibits the largest collection of Judy's Lilliputian Landscapes available for sale to the public.
